Hello fellow Amigans everywhere. You may know that the amiga's filtering
limits the sound chips full potential and that turning off the power L.E.D.
removes the antialiasing filter thus improving sound quality.
What you probably did not know is that there is a second physical filter that
cannot be turned off with a software switch. The other problem is that some
programs flash the power L.E.D. on and off!, no problem if you have a Miggy
1000 but on the newer A500's the result is a terrible noise over the top of
your Hi-Fi sound.YUUUKKKKK........
All is not lost as there is a simple hardware mod you can do to improve
matters greatly. (Be warned opening up the miggy makes the warranty void, and
I cannot accept any responsibility if you cock it up.).
I have so far modded 10 Amigas, including my own, without any problems. Are
you ready? if so here we go, (It may be a good idea to capture this file and
print it out before you dismantle the miggy..(SYSOP))....
1) Unplug all leads from your miggy, turn it keyboard down, and remove the 6
screws that hold the case together, 3 in the front and three in the ledge
above the connectors.
2)Turn miggy right side up and carefully remove the top of the case.
3)Remove the keyboard and unplug the connector (Black lead to left end of
plug, if you plug it in wrong you will fry the keyboard chips...)
4) Remove the RF shield (perforated silver metal) by removing the TorqueX
screws, if you do not have a torqueX driver you can get away with a small
flatblade, bend up the tabs and remove the cover.
DO NOT TOUCH AND OF THE CHIPS!!!!!!! until you have earthed yourself to
discharge any static buildup.
5) Remove the screws that hold the diskdrive into the base of the case and
then loosen the screws in the side of the drive, gently lift it out, unplug
the wires noting were they came from.
6)Underneath the drive you will see some small brown components (Ceramic
capacitors) flat on the board.
Cut the legs on the capacitors C321, C322, C323, C331, C332 and C333.
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE.......
7) Reassemble the miggy in reverse order paying attention to the way plugs are
inserted into their sockets and sit back and enjoy the Hi.Fi. quality of the
Amiga and forget those flashing blues........
All the best for the future..........
